  • Book News : Book News Reviews
A popular, heavily illustrated work on human anatomy & physiology. Suitable for school & public library collections, it manifests the inviting, high quality D-K drawings, charts, photos. Annotation copyright Book News, Inc. Portland, Or.
  • Book Report : The Book Report Reviews 1995 November-December
This beautifully illustrated guide will be an excellent addition to any classroom. Most illustrations would be acceptable at middle grade levels although some subject matter may be better for upper level students. Current technology advances are represented with reproductions of magnetic resonance imaging, ultra sound reports, x-rays and conventional photography, all of which enhance the color diagrams. Human anatomy and physiology are presented in easily understood language accompanied by detailed illustrations. Chapters cover cells, skin, and DNA; the muscular, nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular, immune, respiratory, digestive, urinary and reproductive systems; and the human life cycle. Each chapter closes with illustrations and discussion of related disorders and diseases. AIDS is covered in the material on the immune system while sexually transmitted diseases are treated in the reproductive system chapter. Students can study medical treatments and procedures they hear about in the news. Some glossary terms are illustrated. The unjacketed, laminated cover may not endure the heavy use this volume will get; this one is hard to put down without turning one more page. Index. Highly Recommended.
